Description
Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World is a hardcover children’s book that introduces young readers to 50 astounding women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Each woman is featured on a two-page spread with a page that is mainly text that outlines the woman’s life and achievements in detail. The other page depicts the woman as an illustration, with interesting anecdotes and related illustrations floating around her. Both pages adhere to a limited color palette, giving the book a truly unique style. The book is 128 pages long and the following dimensions: 7.8 x 0.6 x 9.3 inches.
Women in Science features both more widely known and lesser-known women in science, both of which have made major contributions to the sciences. Here are a few women featured in the book: Maria Sibylla Merian – an Entomologist who helps us understand metamorphosis through her studies of the butterfly lifecycles, Ada Lovelace – the creator of the first computer program, Elizabeth Backwell, the first woman medical doctor in the United States, and 47 awe-inspiring women of the past and present.

Why we like it at Happy Little Tadpole:
What a fabulous children’s book! Women have made such remarkable contributions to STEM fields and this book does a phenomenal job showcasing 50 of these amazing women. Not only is the collection of women impressive, but this book is also a perfect mix of information and illustration. The stories of the women are full, the illustrations pointed, and the book also has some extras – a timeline of milestones in the history of sciences for women, a bonus of more women in science with small paragraphs for each, and a glossary of terms. We think this book would be best suited for young lady ages 7-10 years old.
